A CALL TO ARMS:
HOW WASHINGTON CAN WORK WITH VENTURE CAPITAL TO SUSTAIN AND ENERGIZE THE U.S. GLOBAL COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

Aneesh Chopra, the U.S. Chief Technology Officer and Associate Director for Technology in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, has the task to develop and implement the initiatives for the U.S. that President Obama outlined in his State of the Union speech: to "out-innovate, out-educate, and out-build" its global competitors through the construction of a digital infrastructure, strengthening programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education, and establish policies that encourage innovation. With immigration issues, the change of control in Congress, the need for capital markets reform, and the ongoing tax reform debate, Washington's role in partnering with and supporting the venture industry's initiatives has never been more crucial. There are opportunities for the government to help the innovation ecosystem which can in turn help move the economy.  A panel of venture capitalists, who have worked extensively with stakeholders in Washington, and are closely involved in solving the issues that are critical to building a larger innovation economy, will discuss and debate these issues in this opening panel.
